The inner workings of a smartphone are like a crowded party: It can be a challenge to maneuver back to a prime spot once you've been elbowed out of it.
Qualcomm has not been ejected from Samsung Electronics' latest bash, but there's some worry that the company is being shown the door. The new Galaxy S6 smartphone begins shipping on Friday, without Qualcomm's Snapdragon chip as its main processor. And now it seems that some versions will also eschew Qualcomm's modem chips for products of Samsung's own design, according to a teardown report last week from Chipworks.
Modem chips, also known as baseband processors, control the smartphone's connection to the carrier's network. This is a critical business for Qualcomm, which dominates roughly two-thirds of the baseband market, according to Strategy Analytics. Baseband processors are also the main driver of Qualcomm's chipset business that is projected to generate around $19 billion in revenue for the current fiscal year, which ends in September.
Qualcomm's investors have lived with the perpetual worry that Samsung and Apple, which together account for about 40% of global smartphone shipments, will eventually move to their own baseband designs.
This, along with concerns about the company's licensing business in China, has weighed heavily on Qualcomm's stock, which is off nearly 14% over the past 12 months. The PHLX Semiconductor Index is up nearly 20% in that time, while companies such as Skyworks and Avago, which make specialized chips for smartphones, have doubled in value.
Some versions of the new Galaxy will still use Qualcomm's baseband chips. But the onus is on the company to win back momentum this year. A recently raised dividend and buyback should offer some support for Qualcomm's stock. Investors, though, are looking for better chips to play in this game.

사도 토마스 = 토마스 성인 = Saint Thomas = St. Thomas
12사도 중에 인기순위를 메기면 12번째야 배신자가 있으니 11번째가 누굴까가 상당히 궁금했는데, 이번 부활까지 토마스 사도가 젤 마지막에 언급될 확률이 높다고 생각하고 있었습니다.
젤 유명한 사건인 예수님 부활후 하필 토마스가 없을때 예수님이 나타나십니다. 12제자는 물론 핵심측근이 아닌 사람들까지 다 예수님을 보고 얘기까지 나눴는데 토마스만 소외된것이죠.(이미 서열 11위 였나요? ㅋㅋ) 이런 중요한 사건에 소외가 된 토마스는 부럽기도 하고 놀림의 대상이 되었겠지요 '너 예수님과 친한지 알았는데 아니네'. 이런 상황에서 성경에 기록되기까지한 내가 손가락을 예수님 몸에 넣어보기전에는 못믿겠다는 전대후문의 말때문에 의심많은 사도라고 불리지요. 다음에 예수님이 토마스 앞에 나타나셨을때 이런 말씀을 하시죠.
요한복음 20장 29절.
그러자 예수님께서 토마스에게 말씀하셨다. "너는 나를 보고서야 믿느냐? 보지 않고도 믿는 사람은 행복하다."
토마스 두번 죽이는 말씀이신데, 이런 이야기를 듣고 토마스 사도 이름으로 세례명을 정하기 정말 어렵지요. 아마도 이런 유명한 사건때문에 인기투표에서 밀리지 않을까 생각했는데... ^^
토마스는 상당히 의심이 많고 현실적인 인물이었다고 생각됩니다. 성경구절에 나올때 마다 그에게서 나의 모습을 발견합니다. 멋있는 배역은 아닐지라도 누구라도 그 자리에서 그렇게 할것 같은 인물. 위대한 성인보다는 평범한 사람에 어울리는 분이신것처럼 보이죠.(사실 모든 사도들이 다 그렇지요)
예수님의 부활을 통해서 제자들이 용기를 얻고 예수님이 부여하신 저마다의 사명대로 맡은 임무를 찾아 떠납니다. 토마스 성인은 인도로 갑니다. 인도는 그 당시에 평면 지구에서 마지막인 땅끝 마을로 믿어지고 있었습니다. 예수님께서 땅끝으로 가라고 말씀하셨는지는 모르겠습니다. 그가 지구의 끝에서 복음을 전하다 죽겠다고 결심했을 수도 있고요. 어느쪽이 사실이냐는 중요치 않습니다. 토마스 사도는 모든 사도중에게 가장 멀고, 가장 아는 사람이 적고 가장 위험한 곳 그래서 가장 예수님 말씀을 전하기 어려운 곳을 선택하셨습니다. 거기서 순교하셨지요.
며칠전 인도 친구와 점심을 먹었습니다. 이 친구를 알게된건 2년이 됐는데 특이하게 종교가 가톨릭입니다. 지금까지 한번도 묻지 않았습니다, 넌 왜 힌두교가 아니고 가톨릭이냐고. 2년만에 알게된 사실은, 토마스 사도가 인도에 도착해서 7개 교회를 세웠는데 자기 주에 세웠다고 합니다. 그 주 이름이 Kerala고 St. Thomas 성당도 그 주에 있다고 합니다. 그 주 사람들은 대부분이 크리스찬이라고. 2000년전에 토마스 성인이 인도로 간 사건이 2000년 후에 나에게까지 이런 인연을 만들어 주는구나 하며 하느님께 감사드렸습니다. 다음에 인도에 가면 꼭 토마스 성당은 꼭 다녀가겠습니다.
우리의 성경은 2000년이 지나도 한번도 죽은책이 된적이 없습니다.

한국 어린이들, 청소년들의 어려움은 예나지금이나 변한게 없는것 같다. 한국은 돈많은 어른들에게 천국이지만 약자인 어린이와 청소년들이 살기좋은 곳일까는 대답이 선뜻 안나온다. 요즘 홍준표라는 쓰레ㄱ가 자기 대권을 위해서 아이들의 무상급식 폐지을 들고나온거 보면 여전히 애들이 살기 어려운 나라라는 반증은 된다.
이런 생각하다보니 문뜩 떠오른 한국영화 제목인데, 쟁쟁한 사람들은 다 나오는 영화였네. 왠지 입시때문에 자살까지 하게되는 영화라고 생각했는데, 생각과는 다른 영화였네. 내가 생각났던 영화는 '행복은 성적순이 아니자나요' 인가보다. 이미연은 전설적이었는데... 행복하게 사셔야할텐데.

저는 어차피 차에 실고 다니는거 구지 비싼 작은거 보다는 크고 싼게 더 좋더군요. 빠르기도 하고, 17인치는 되어야 모니터에 안연결해도 쓸만하고요. $400 싸다. 그래픽 성능도 좋고.
인텔 5세대 칩으로 좋은 딜들이 많이 나오네요. 년말에 블랙 프라이데이(Black Friday)때 버티긴 좀 어렵겠네요.

미국 고용 3월 report가 완전 쇼크 수준입니다. 예상치에 크게 믿돌면서 미국 경제의 빨간불로 받아들여지네요. 다행히 좋은 뉴스는 이자율 빨리 못올릴것 같다는 예상이 되겠죠. 저유가가 장기화 되면서 미국의 에너지 섹터의 잡들이 영향을 받기 시작하는것 같습니다. 이번년 저유가를 계속 예상해야 할텐데, 미국 경제 지표가 버텨줄지 궁금합니다. 못버텨주면 어떻게 대응할지도 궁금해지네요.

The U.S. has added 3.1 million jobs over the 12 months ended in March, which was down slightly from 3.2 million jobs for the period that ended in February.
The unemployment rate in March remained unchanged at 5.5%, while a broader gauge of underemployment that includes workers who have part-time jobs but would like full-time work ticked down to 10.9%, the lowest level since August 2008.
The unemployment rate fell further for college graduates, dropping to 2.5%. For high school dropouts, unemployment actually worsened last month, climbing to 8.6% from 8.4%.
The share of Americans participating in the labor force ticked down to 62.7%, matching the lowest level in 36 years. The share of Americans with jobs was unchanged at 59.3%.
A big part of the decline in the overall U.S. labor force owes to the aging of the U.S. population and the growing share of retirees. But even among so-called prime-age workers between 25 and 54 years old, labor-force participation and employment to population have dropped.
Average hourly earnings ticked up in March from February, but average weekly earnings posted the smallest annual gain since last June.
The number of workers who have been out of their jobs for more than six months has continued to decline but remains above the prerecession level.
The share of the unemployed who have been jobless for more than half a year fell below 30% for the first time since June 2009. The rate had been hovering around 31% for the last six months. This was the first big drop in long-term unemployment since August.
The median duration of unemployment dropped to 12.2 weeks from 13.1 weeks. This is still much higher than normal but less than half as long as during the worst of the recession.
Nearly all of the jobs added since the recession ended in June 2009 have been full-time positions.

Nonfarm payrolls rose by a seasonally adjusted 126,000 jobs in March, the Labor Department said Friday. The unemployment rate, derived from a separate survey of households, was unchanged at 5.5%.

The economy added an average 197,000 jobs in the first three months of 2015, the weakest pace since early 2014. Last year, the U.S. added an average 260,000 jobs a month. The first quarter of 2015 looks a lot like the first quarter of 2014, when job growth averaged 193,000. The big question is whether the latest slowdown represents broader weakness or a temporary lull. Last year's weak first quarter was followed by a strong rebound.

Updated figures showed job growth was weaker earlier this year than previously estimated, with the economy adding 69,000 fewer jobs in January and February than previously estimated. Payrolls grew 201,000 in January instead of the previously reported 239,000 gain. Payrolls increased 264,000 in February, down from the initially reported addition of 295,000.

Workers appear to be getting slightly bigger paychecks. Average hourly earnings of private-sector workers rose 7 cents in March from February, to $24.86. But growth is still modest historically. Over the past year, wages have grown 2.1%.

The labor force shrank last month, a sign of underlying weakness. The labor-force participation rate—or the share of working-age Americans with jobs or searching—fell to 62.7% from February's 62.8%. The labor force lost 96,000 workers last month. The participation rate is near the lowest level since the late 1970s.

The mining and logging industry shed 11,000 jobs in March and has lost a total of 30,000 positions this year. That reflects weakness in the energy industry, suffering under a collapse in oil prices. But many service-providing sectors added jobs last month, including retail, health care and restaurants.

밴치마크는 사실 자기들이 유리한것이 있고 없고가 있어서 사용자의 실제 사용느낌을 다 반영하기는 어렵지만, 많은 사람들이 돌리는 벤치마크로 S6가 잘 나오는것 같습니다. S6보다 S6 Edge가 좀더 낮은것은 정말 특이하네요. 첫번째 그래픽 성능도 좋다고 하는 기사인데 사실 그럴것 같지는 않고요.
두번째 기사는 그래픽 성능만 보면 IPhone이 여전히 젤 좋다고 하는 기사가 있고, S6는 Iphone 5S보다 못하기도 한 결과가 있다고 하네요. 밴치마크 결과를 떠나서 아이폰이 해상도도 낮게 최적화 되어있어서 실제 빠릿빠릿함은 따라갈 안드로이드가 없다고 생각됩니다.

Popular benchmarking platform AnTuTu has published its Q1 2015 performance report for smartphones, listing the average scores of the top 10 handsets to pass through its test. The results are very favourable for Samsung and MediaTek, but raise more questions about Qualcomm's latest high-end Snapdragon processor.
The averaged AnTuTu results find the Galaxy S6 to be a rather nippy device, reflecting our own earlier tests. The Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge top the chart by quite a margin, followed by the new HTC One M9 and then a range of last year's flagship smartphones. Samsung appears vindicated in its choice to exclusively use its in-house 14nm FinFET Exynos 7420 in its latest flagship.
Outstripping its reputation, the MediaTek MT6595 powered Meizu MX4 manages to retain its spot in the top 5 from last year. The MT6595 is built from four Cortex-A17 and four A7 CPU cores, combined with a PowerVR Series6 GPU. MediaTek's high-end chips are clearly capable of taking on the big SoC brands these days.
However, what is perhaps most interesting about these results is the mediocre performance demonstrated by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 810, found inside the HTC One M9 and LG G Flex 2. While the One M9, on average, shows some improvement over last generation Snapdragon 805 handsets that make up the bulk of the list, the G Flex 2 sits towards the bottom of the top 10.
While we may not have expected the Snapdragon 810 to exactly match the 14nm Exynos 7420, we anticipated a clearer gap between Qualcomm's new chip and the 28nm Snapdragon 805 series.
Benchmarks being only a semi-accurate reflection of real-world performance, it is tough to say exactly what, if anything, is holding the Snapdragon 810 back. A software or task management burden is vaguely possible, but it's difficult not to suspect that the unverified overheating issue haunting the Snapdragon 810 might have more to do with it. Throttling back performance to prevent overly high temperatures is common in all chips. However, if the 810 is running even moderately hotter than the last generation, throttling could be taking place faster than usual to reduce the chip's peak performance, which would definitely show up in a benchmark test.
Furthermore, the AnTuTu GPU performance test reveals a result much more in line with what the chip specification sheets would suggest. The Exynos 7420's Mali-T760 MP8 GPU shows a slight advantage over the Snapdragon 810's Adreno 430, which in turn shows the sort of improvement that we were expecting compared with the Snapdragon 805's Adreno 420 and 801's Adreno 330. It seems that the 810 is underperforming on the CPU side, which lines up with the rumored cause of the overheating problem.
As damning as the list looks, we don't have any complaints about the performance offered by the HTC One M9. Although the same can't be said for the LG G Flex 2.
While not conclusive proof of any major issue, the results are disappointing for Qualcomm's chip and may cast further doubt over current and upcoming smartphones powered by the Snapdragon 810. Rumors such as LG's G4 potentially switching to the Snapdragon 808, aren't helping the situation either.
Even so, Qualcomm is still the most dominant SoC manufacturer in the high-performance smartphone market, for now, with 7 out of 10 devices in the list using a Snapdragon chip. It remains to be seen if Qualcomm will retain its market dominance in the high-end space throughout 2015, or if this year will present opportunities for MediaTek or Samsung to grab a bigger share.

A detailed report on AppleInsider has found graphics performance on the Galaxy S6 to fall not only far behind the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus, but in some cases even behind the iPhone 5S. It's a landslide victory.
The tests use Kishonti Informatics' respected GFXBench (v3.0.2) and use OpenGL ES 2.0 and 3.0 benchmarks. The benchmark uses game-mimicking graphics to attain their results and is often seen as one of the more reliable tests for indication of real world performance.

Most notably AppleInsider claims that "In terms of fps [frames per second], the latest benchmarks show that Samsung's new 'Exynos 7' powered Galaxy S6 drops down to 15 fps—just 78 percent of the frame rate of iPhone 6 Plus—in the same test [OpenGL ES 3.0 3D]."

한번 둘러보니 자꾸 빠져들게되는 매력이 있네요.
예전에 좀 했던 Counter Strike(CS)에 들어가보니 젤 많이 보는 채널이 있는데, 친구들과 모여서 재밌게 하고 있습니다. 그러다 보니 여자친구도 같이 game을 하면서 방송을 하고 있다는 것을 알게됐는데, 여자친구를 예쁘게 화장까지 시켜서 얼굴마담 노릇도 잘 하고 있는것 처럼 보입니다.
Game PC사양이 정말 장난아닌데, 여자친구 사양까지도, 이 친구는 streaming 용 PC까지 따로 두고 있네요. 헉~
수입원은 subscribe하려면 기본적으로 돈을 내야하고, 별풍선처럼, 광고도 붙이고, YouTube 채널로 유도해서 거기서 수익도 내고 그런것 같습니다. 자기가 재밌어 하는 것을 하면서 돈을 벌수 있는데, 그래도 오래가는 것은 아니니 여기에 너무 말뚝 박을생각은 하지 않아야 겠지요.
