21세기 자본론 그리고 불평등의 경제학

꼭 시간내서 읽어보고 싶은 책

나는 꼽사리다 방송중, '21세기 자본론', 그리고 불평등의 경제학 이라는 상당히 재밌는 에피소드가 있습니다. 토마스 피케티(Thomas Piketty)라는 프랑스의 천재 경제학자가 쓴 책을 화두로 이야기를 진행합니다. 이책은 경제학책으로 드물게 전세계적으로 인기를 모았나봅니다. 천재가, 더구나 경제학 천재가 월가같은데서 돈벌지 않고, 불평등에 대한 연구를 해주니 얼마나 감사합니까. 한번 읽고싶어졌습니다.

책소개중 각 나라의 100년치 소득자료를 이용했다고 하는데, 우리나라는 현재도 소득자료가 없다고합니다. 대한민국은 사회전반의 통계자료도 부족하고 있더라도 기득권에 불리한 내용은 철저히 없애던지 비밀에 붙이는것 같습니다. 피케티 할아버지가 나오더라도 대한민국에서 이런 연구는 어려울것 같습니다. 피케티가 한국에 태어났더라면 어떻게됐을까요.

프랑스의 최고소득세율 75%에 대해서 상당히 안좋은 느낌이 있었지만, 이런 위대한 학자를 가지고 있는 나라라서 가능하구나 생각이 들었습니다. 비판적인 뉴스가 많은것은 좋은면이 많은데 언론이 우매한 대중들을 선동하는것중에 하나구나 하는 생각을 들었습니다. 우리 나라도 종부세를 대다수 국민이 반대했다고하지요. 부의 평등을 위해서 꼭 필요하고 대다수 국민이 도움을 받을 정책인데, 언론이 설래발 치지요. 우매한 대중은 없는 살림에 나도 내게될까봐 공포심을 갖게되고 반대해주고요.

한국 사회는 상속말고는 노동자가 집을 살수 없는 사회로 바뀌었다고 합니다. (아마도 서울에서 겠지요) 좋은 사회는 최고 income tax가 50%넘게, 상속세는 최고 70%넘게 유지할수 있어야하지 않을까 하는 생각이 들었습니다. 돈 없는 사람들이 더 반대하고 나오겠지요.
